SENTIENT GROVE

The niche-wombs of seven tree-like sculptures pulse at intervals, dreaming worlds into being with varying degrees of orange intensity. Orange is associated with the sacral chakra of birth and creativity. Flashes of an electronic mycelial network pulses communication beneath the floor. All video was recorded in 2016 during a yearlong residential internship at the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center in Sonoma County, California. The haunting whistles are the cries of a pair of Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) fledglings who dwelt within the forest.
